A Climate Commission to ensure the actions needed to alleviate a climate emergency is coming to Kirklees. This was hinted at by Kirklees Council's leader Cllr Shabir Pandor, opening the climate conference on Saturday 29th February.
The conference was given an insight into the work of the Leeds Climate Commission by Prof Andy Gouldson (pictured) who answered questions about its operation, funding and relationship with Leeds City Council and West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA).
Prof Gouldson outlined the importance of the commitment made to the commission by larger employers and the Chamber of Commerce in Leeds. He said that the 10 largest energy users were working together with the commission on alternative energy solutions.
"Civil society is playing a significant role in ensuring that a partnership with business, academia and the local authority is focussed on tackling the climate emergency", he said.
